Michael Oristaglio

Michael Oristaglio was appointed executive director of YCEI in September 2012. He is senior research scientist in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. His research specialty is geophysical remote sensing, including the use of seismic and electromagnetic waves to locate hydrocarbon, mineral and groundwater resources, to map urban infrastructure and archaeological sites and to monitor environmental conditions in the near surface. He is part of a research project, sponsored by YCEI and US National Energy Technology Laboratory, performing laboratory studies and modeling of mineral carbonation as a mechanism for permanent geologic sequestration of carbon dioxide.
