Michael Oristaglio was appointed executive director of YCEI in September 2012. He is senior research scientist in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. His research specialty is geophysical remote sensing, including the use of seismic and electromagnetic waves to locate hydrocarbon, mineral and groundwater resources, to map urban infrastructure and archaeological sites and to monitor environmental conditions in the near surface. He is part of a experimental research project on a novel way of storing carbon dioxide underground as a way of mitigating climate change. The project at Yale West Campus is sponsored by YCEI and the U.S. Department of Energy.
