David Bercovici helped coordinate and negotiate the initiation of the YCEI. Prior to coming to Yale he was a Professor at the University of Hawaii for 10 years, where he was also Chair before leaving. Since coming to Yale he has been both Director of Graduate Studies (2002-2006) and Chair (terms from 2006-2012). Bercovici is a theoretical geophysicist who works primarily on problems of geological and geophysical fluid dynamics. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, and was the recipient of the James. B. Macelwane Medal from the AGU as well as the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award.
